Terms of Use

Effective October 7, 2026 ยท Version 2026-10-07

The short version There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. Reports are acted on within 24 hours. Offending content is removed and the user who posted it is suspended.

1. About these terms

These terms cover your use of the Pixelfed mobile app for iOS and Android ("the app"), published by Pixelfed Inc. ("we", "us"). By signing in or creating an account through the app, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

The app connects you to Pixelfed servers. Some are run by us, such as pixelfed.social. Most are run by independent people and organizations. Your account lives on the server you choose, and that server has its own terms and rules.

Both sets of terms apply to you. Where they differ on what content or behavior is allowed, the stricter rule applies.

2. Who can use the app

You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age required in your country or by your server, whichever is higher.

You are responsible for your account and for everything posted from it.

3. No tolerance for objectionable content

There is no tolerance for objectionable content in the app. You may not post, share, or link to content that:

Your server may prohibit more than this list. It may not allow less.

4. No tolerance for abusive users

There is no tolerance for abusive users. You may not:

5. Reporting, blocking, and enforcement

Reports of objectionable content are acted on within 24 hours. When a report is confirmed, the content is removed and the user who posted it is ejected, meaning their account is suspended or permanently removed.

Report. You can report any post, comment, or account from inside the app.

Block and mute. You can block or mute any account. Their content is hidden from you right away.

On servers we operate. On pixelfed.social and other servers we run, our moderation team reviews reports directly and acts within 24 hours.

On independent servers. Your report is sent to the moderators of the server involved. They are responsible for removing the content and the user. If a server does not act on reports of objectionable content within 24 hours, we may remove it from the app's server directory and stop the app from connecting to it.

If you think a moderation decision was a mistake, contact the moderators of the server that made it.

6. Your content

You own what you post. Only post content you have the right to share.

Posting through the app sends your content to your server. Public posts are then distributed to other servers across the fediverse. The license you grant to host and distribute your content is set by your server's terms.

Deleting a post sends a delete request to other servers. Copies held by servers outside our control may not be removed.

7. Independent servers

We do not control independently operated servers and are not responsible for their content, availability, moderation, or privacy practices.

Choose a server you trust, and read its rules before you join.

8. Ending access

You can stop using the app at any time. You can delete your account from your account settings.

We may suspend or end your access to the app if you break these terms.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. When we do, the app will ask you to agree to the new version before you continue. The date at the top of this page shows the current version.
